What Miami Dolphins quarterbacked Tua Tagovailoa lacks in medical expertise he more than makes up for with his optimistic bedside manner.
Speaking with ESPN after the Dolphins' first win of the season, Tagovailoa ignored the gruesome knee injury suffered by Miami star receiver Tyreek Hill earlier Monday to thank 'God for keeping us safe, for the most part.'
Obviously 'for the most part' did some heavy lifting in that answer, which did include mention of Hill's injury.
'My prayers go out to all of those who got injured tonight, my boy Tyreek,' Tagovailoa told ESPN's Peter Schrager.
The controversial receiver and prolific father dislocated his left knee and tore his ACL while being tackled in the third quarter of Monday's win over the visiting New York Jets. He is not expected to return this season.
Tagovailoa's praise did not go unnoticed.

'Keeping us all safe, except our best player, whose leg is now backwards,' one critic joked on X, referring to the horrifying images of Hill's knee injury.
Many only saw an edited version of the footage in which Tagovailoa did not mention Hill. And given Tagovailoa's history of concussions, many simply assumed he'd forgotten due to short-term memory loss.
'Someone needs to check on him,' one fan wrote. 'I hope he is ok.'
Of course, Tagovailoa did not forget about Hill, whom he publicly supported.
Initially Hill's injury looked simply like a dislocation before testing discovered he'd also torn his ACL, according to ESPN. A Dolphins spokesperson told Daily Mail that coach Mike McDaniel will give an update at Tuesday's press conference.
McDaniel did say Hill was laughing and joking as he was taken off the field in Miami on Monday.
Hill's fourth season in Miami ends after just four games. He finished with 21 catches for 265 yards and a touchdown on 29 targets for the season.
Known for his jaw-dropping speed and a growing flock of a dozen or so children , Hill's third season in Miami was also a major departure from his first two, both of which ended with All-Pro honors.
Although he managed to play in all 17 games for the injury-plagued Dolphins, Hill's production dropped from a league-best 112.4 receiving yards a game in 2023 to just 56.4 yards a game last season. As a result, he went from 13 touchdowns to just six while finishing with fewer than 1,000 receiving yards for the first time since 2019.
Hill is not expected to play again in 2025 after suffering a gruesome knee injury on Monday
Worst of all, he ended the season by making a cryptic trade demand ('I'm out bro') before walking back those comments as the team neglected to pull a deal.
While Hill's relationships in the NFL are a work in progress, the one with his estranged wife is seemingly beyond repair.
Fitness entrepreneur Keeta Vaccaro filed for divorce on April 7 a day after cops responded to reports of an 'assault in progress' at the couple's luxury Miami condo.
Hill hurled a laptop onto the floor and was 'aggressive and impulsive' according to Vaccaro's mother Alesia – but police determined that 'no crime was committed'.
