Ex-MLB star confronts knife-wielding man in front of his junior team in terrifying Oklahoma hotel scene

Former Mets and Braves pitcher, Kevin Lomon, allegedly fought off a knife-wielding man who threatened members of his high school baseball team.

The 54-year-old, who played in 12 Major League Baseball games between 1995 and 1996, is now a coach at Cameron High School in Oklahoma.

Earlier this month, he was on the road with his team at a hotel in Shawnee, Oklahoma, when he received an emergency call from one of his players.

'It was one of my kids saying that someone just pulled a knife on him,' Lomon told KFDM. 'I’m responsible for 13 high school boys... they know I’ll fight for them.'

The police report claims one of Lomon's players saw Christopher Stevens in the hotel hallway, according to 5newsonline, with Stevens accused of pulling out a knife and approaching the boy. 

It's said Lomon ordered his players to return to their rooms and call the police, while Stevens hung by the elevators with a knife. 

The former MLB pitcher reportedly told Stevens to drop the blade. Instead, the man continued to approach Lomon.

'I had to react,' the 54-year-old told KFDM. 'And I didn’t have much time to think about it... I don't think I'm a hero. I would do it again, most people and most coaches would do the same thing.'

Lomon allegedly punched Stevens a number of times before pinning him to the ground until the authorities turned up.

Stevens was reportedly arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and public intoxication.

'Nobody is really going to care what batting average is five years from now, they're going to care what kind of person you are,' Lomon told KFDM.
