Liverpool will face Tottenham Hotspur in a crunch all-Premier League tie in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The encounter at Anfield is the pick of the games in the draw held on Wednesday evening.

Manchester United host Brighton, which could see Carlos Baleba take on his old side after he sealed a £70million move to Old Trafford this week.

Manchester City will begin their defence of the Carabao Cup at home to Championship outfit Norwich and Arsenal, beaten by Pep Guardiola's side in the final in March, go to Ipswich.

Chelsea will take on Leeds, should the Blues get past Luton at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, while Aston Villa make the short trip to Frank Lampard's Coventry.

Conference League winners Crystal Palace will start their pursuit of winning silverware for three seasons in a row at home to Middlesbrough, while Newcastle's reward for beating West Brom is a visit to Millwall.

Elsewhere, Brentford go to Reading, while League Two Fleetwood, the lowest-ranked side in round three, entertain Sheffield United.

The eight Premier League sides in the Champions League and Europa League this season could not face each other because of a clash with the opening fixtures in the two competitions.

A pre-draw was held ahead of Everton's victory at Preston to determine whether they would play home or away in the third round.

Brighton are in the Conference League play-offs but were excluded from the pre-draw as the competition's league phase does not begin until October.

Matches will be held in the weeks commencing September 7 and 14 to accommodate the schedule for the Champions League and Europa League.
