Jaxson Dart has dream start to life in the NFL with immediate first touchdown to send Giants fans wild

Jaxson Dart sent Giants fans wild on Sunday as he immediately led a touchdown drive in his first start with the team.

The rookie was handed the keys to Big Blue's offense earlier this week as veteran Russell Wilson was benched after just three games with his new franchise.

And Dart wasted little time making an impression on the home fans in East Rutherford as he led an 89-yard touchdown drive against the Chargers in his first series.

The former Ole Miss star was surgical on the drive, completing both of his pass attempts to Malik Nabers before sprinting 15 yards into the end zone on a designed run.

He totaled 28 rushing yards on the drive and danced following his score as MetLife Stadium erupted.

Fellow rookie Cam Skattebo also played a pivotal role on the opening drive as he rushed four times for 27 yards. 

Afterwards, the Giants were given great field position at the Chargers' three-yard-line following a 37-yard Dexter Lawrence interception return.

But New York was unable to capitalize as they committed a false start on first-and-goal and ultimately settled for a field goal.  

Dart was always viewed as the Giants' quarterback of the future after the team selected him No. 25 overall in this year's draft.

However, many expected that he'd have to wait longer than three games to make his first start.

But after an 0-3 start for the Giants and two uneven performances from Wilson (either side of a record-breaking one against the Cowboys), head coach Brian Daboll made the call to name Dart the starter.

And the 22-year-old sounded confident ahead of his first start.

'I don't really feel pressure,' he said. 'I feel like pressure is given to those who play at a high level. And the best players in the world are the ones that are kinda involved with that word, pressure.'

Dart played sparingly in the previous two weeks but had yet to attempt a pass in the regular season before Week 4.
