NFL fans were in shock as Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Adonai Mitchell turned one of the best individual efforts of the season into an embarrassment with a fumble as he crossed the goal line.
The incredible scenes occurred during the third quarter of the Colts game against the Los Angeles Rams, with Mitchell first hauling in a tough catch after be wrangled by Emmanuel Forbes Jr. since taking off in his route.
Mitchell's adjustment with the ball about to land got him open, with Forbes running into former Washington Commanders teammate Kam Curl, springing the wide receiver open down the sideline.
The 22-year-old wideout outran the two defensive backs to reach the goal line first when he outstretched his hand and lost control of the ball.
The pigskin bounced into the end zone and out of bounds, with Mitchell unable to recover it in the end zone.
After the call was originally made for a touchdown on the field, the officials met and overturned for a touchback the call to the roar of the home crowd.

Instead, the Rams ended the Colts perfect season with a 27-20 win on an 88-yard Tutu Atwell touchdown.
The Colts return to the field in Week 5 with a home game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
