Aussie racing car driver Craig Lowndes has announced that he and his wife Lara have separated
The three-time V8 Supercars Championship winner, who also won the Bathurst 1000 on seven occasions, took to Facebook to announce the sad news on Monday.
'It's with sadness that Lara and I let you know we have separated,' he wrote on social media.
'We continue to work together positively, keeping things on track.
'We won't be making any further comment and appreciate your consideration around this.'
Lara published the same statement on her Instagram account.
Craig Lowndes has revealed that he and his partner Lara have separated after 10 years of marriage
The champion driver, who has won three V8 Supercars championships, made the announcement on Facebook on Monday
Lowndes and Lara were married back in 2015. It came after he had split up with his first wife, Natalie, in 2011.
It is unclear why Craig and Lara have chosen to break up after 10 years of marriage.
The 51-year-old racing driver retired from racing in 2018.
Later in 2021, his wife, Lara, kicked him out of the house, after Lowndes had sent cringeworthy loved-up messages to a mystery sweetheart who he had never met.
Lara had found out about the incident and had briefly booted him out of the house.
Lowndes later admitted to having a secret three-year online 'affair' with the mystery woman.
He later admitted that he had sought help and had been determined to make amends with Lara.
The racing car driver also admitted that he was 'ashamed' following the affair.
The pair were married in 2015. In 2021 Lara briefly kicked her husband out of the house after he revealed he had been having a three-year affair with an unknown person online
'For me … I'm ashamed to be talking to you about this, it's very sensitive to myself and Lara,' Lowndes said.
'It is what it is, but I can honestly say Lara knows all about this and this third person is no longer in my life. Lara and I still live together, we had some time apart, but now we are committed to working through it all.
'Social media is an evil thing at times, it can be very beneficial, but it can also be very evil … we don't even know this isn't a catfish.'
Lara is also understood to have been tormented by the individual online.
'Some of the s**t we’ve received is out of control, we have been tormented. It’s f***ing hard,' Lara said back in 2021, explaining that she had received some abusive messages.
Lowndes was inducted into the Australian Motor Sport hall of fame in 2019 and was also awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2012 Queen's Birthday Honours List.
