A football player for the University of Houston has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman.
Carmello Dedric Brooks, 19, was arrested last Thursday by campus police, according to court records obtained by the Daily Mail.
According to the criminal complaint, prosecutors accuse Brooks of 'intentionally, knowingly and recklessly' causing 'bodily injury' to the woman 'by picking her up and slamming her to the ground.'
Prosecutors allege that 'at the time of the assault the defendant [Brooks] knew the complainant was pregnant.'
Brooks was charged with felony assault on a pregnant individual, according to court records.
He has since posted a $15,000 bond and is no longer in custody.

An attorney for Brooks told the Daily Mail in a statement: 'I have been in communication with the appropriate parties and witnesses and we are working to make sure that the Harris District Attorney’s Office has the complete picture before any final decisions are made.
'We know there are important facts that need to be carefully considered and we fully expect those facts to clearly prove Carmello's complete innocence as the investigation progresses.
'Mr. Brooks has a great deal at stake, including his education, his football career, and his future. He will continue to comply with the Court’s requirements and will allow this process to move forward through the proper legal process.'
Further details about the alleged incident were revealed in a probable cause hearing on Friday, according to local station KPRC.

In that hearing, an officer said the victim recently discovered she was pregnant. Brooks then allegedly squeezed her arms, slammed her to the ground and sat on her to pin her down.
The outlet adds that officers reported observing visible injuries to the victim.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Houston Athletics said, 'We are aware of an incident involving a Houston Football student-athlete. We take all allegations of this nature very seriously and are gathering more information.'
Brooks, listed as a sophomore, has not made an appearance in a game so far this season, according to ESPN.
